Changing in airport procedures
A lot of folks have been curbing their air travel in the past year. This may be changing now that the airport screeners are Federal workers. If you plan on flying this year, consumer advocate Clark Howard had
some interesting thoughts.
1. If you plan on checking any luggage in, you will have to wait in a really,
really long line.
2. Stop putting your film in your checked baggage: the new security systems can
destroy your film. Consider either putting your film in your carry-on, or shipping it home. You might also consider using the prepaid film processing mailers as well.
3. Airlines are much stricter about your luggage: How many pieces you check in, how much they weigh, and how large they are. Some marginally sized "carry-ons" may now be considered too big, so make sure your carry-on is no longer than 22 inches.
For those who can travel lightly, there is some good news:
1. In general, there is more overhead bin space on airplanes because people are carrying less bags on board.
2. If you have no large pieces of luggage, you can check in up to six hours before your flight departure time, either from your home computer, or from the kiosks in the airport.
3. With no luggage to check in, and by checking yourself beforehand, you may not need to arrive three hours before your flight!
...I do however, recommend that you still take a book to read with you.
